How long will a physical therapy session take?
Your first appointment is a comprehensive evaluation and typically lasts 60–75 minutes. During this visit, we'll discuss your goals, perform a thorough assessment, identify the underlying cause of your symptoms, and begin treatment.
Follow-up visits are typically 60 minutes, allowing plenty of time for hands-on treatment, movement assessment, exercise progression, and answering your questions.
If you're short on time, let us know—we'll do our best to accommodate your schedule. Limited 30-minute follow-up appointments are also available when appropriate.
What can I expect at my first visit?
Your evaluation takes place in a private treatment room, where you'll receive one-on-one care for the entire appointment.
To help us assess your movement, please wear comfortable athletic clothing. If your symptoms involve your hip, pelvis, lower back, or legs, shorts are recommended (or bring a pair to change into). Women may also find it helpful to wear a sports bra for shoulder or upper body evaluations.
Before your appointment, you'll receive access to your secure online patient portal, where you'll complete your intake paperwork.
After each visit, your personalized Home Exercise Program will be uploaded to your patient portal, complete with video demonstrations so you can confidently continue your progress between sessions.
Do you accept insurance?
Athlete's Mechanic is a private-pay physical therapy practice, which allows us to provide one-on-one care without the restrictions often imposed by insurance companies.
If you'd like to seek reimbursement through your insurance, we're happy to provide a superbill that you can submit for out-of-network benefits. We recommend contacting your insurance provider before your appointment to ask about your out-of-network physical therapy coverage.
Many PPO insurance plans offer reimbursement for out-of-network services. Please note that Medicare, Medicaid, and many HMO plans generally do not provide out-of-network reimbursement.
Why don’t you accept traditional insurance?
Our goal at Athlete’s Mechanic is to provide the absolute highest quality of care possible. In order to do this, we integrate a fully one-on-one patient to therapist model which, quite frankly, is not well supported by the world of insurance. Choosing to be a private pay clinic means that we are not confined to what insurance deems is necessary for you. We are free as doctors of physical therapy to use our knowledge, skills, and insight freely and transparently to provide you with the level of care that you truly need to meet your goals. In this model, you will not experience overlapping time with other patients, enabling us to spend focused, quality time with you every single visit. In our ‘cash based’ model, you enter into an agreement with your physical therapist concerning your services in a manner that both parties have decided upon and that will ultimately help you reach your goals most efficiently.
When will I be billed for my visit(s)?
You will be billed at the time of service. During your first session, we will discuss the plan of care (number of visits) you require together. There is full transparency about your care, number of visits, and cost at the initial evaluation so that there are no surprises.
Should you deicde a package of visits is the best option, you can choose to pay for all of the visits up front, or divide the package cost into two payments. Individual visits are billed at the individual price at the time of service. You can pay by cash, credit card, debit card, HSA, check, or Venmo.
